Volunteers are the driving force behind United Way of Williamson
County. Some of the volunteer opportunities to work directly
with your local United Way's office include:
Volunteer
Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Volunteers
Timeframe: February
1 thorugh April 15
Volunteers provide free tax return assitance for households
earning less than $40,000 in 2007. Positions are open for
greeters and screeners, tax preparer, and qulified reviewers.
Greeters and screeners will answer non-technical questions
and pre-screen individuals to verify that they meet key eligibility
requirements. Tax preparers will prepare free tax returns
for eligible taxpayers. Qualified reviewers will confirm the
information provided by the filer is correct. Volunteers do
not have to be tax preparation professionals and will receive
training to help prepare basic tax return documents.
Volunteers are needed at the VITA sites at the
Fairview Public Library and the College Grove Senior Center.

Allocations
Panels
Timeframe: meets during March & April
of each year
Members of these panels monitor agency performance and decide
funding distribution. Time required includes on-site visits
to one or more agencies, review of agency financial statements
and service statistics, and a minimum of 8 hours reviewing
agency presentations.
Campaign/Fund-Raising
Committee
Timeframe: calls are made on CEO's in March-May
The campaign volunteers are crucial to the success of the
workplace campaign. Training begins in March to prepare volunteers
for calling on CEO's of local businesses to discuss workplace
giving.
Loaned Executives
Timeframe: mid-August through October
Local companies are encouraged to "loan" associates
from their company to assist United Way in conducting the
annual campaign. Most loaned executives fulfill duties working
from their office, within their schedule's availability. These
responsibilities include organizing materials,
delivering campaign materials to local companies, speaking
on behalf of United Way, and attending/assisting with company
kickoffs.
Individuals not affiliated with a company who wish to assist
with loaned executive duties are also welcome. |
