Through the Years

1960s

A postage stamp costs four cents.

It's 31 cents a gallon at the gas pump.

The average US household income is $4,650.

Since this time, the Williamson County population increased 637%

with 186,110 residents so far this year.

In the summer of 1961, five local businessmen came together over a glass of sweet tea to begin development of the county's first charitable fund to help people in need, and named it United Givers Fund of Williamson County.

The plan: develop one structured fundraiser for multiple social service agencies attempting to raise money on their own.

The first campaign brought in just over $20,000 for the five founding agencies: Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Red Cross, Retarded Children's Organization (forerunner of ARC) and 4-H Clubs of Williamson County.

Thirteen volunteers served on the initial Board of Directors

In 1964 Arthritis & Rheumatism Foundation and the United Service Organization joined the ranks.

By 1969, the all volunteer directors count grew to 31.
