The Brentwood Cool Springs Chamber of Commerce, CoolSprings Galleria, United Way of Williamson County and over 100 volunteers welcomed approximately 1,700 guests at Vanderbilt Williamson presents Taste of Williamson on Sunday, March 21. Guests enjoyed a relaxed tasting experience and fun filled atmosphere with music provided by Ron Shuff and Jim Hayden, Jaystorm and Rachel Holder.
Guests enjoyed everything from appetizers and entrees to unique and delicious deserts from returning restaurants and we offered lots of new selections from first time participants. Congratulations to Nashville Chocolate Kitchen who won “Best Presentation”. The winner of the “People’s Choice” award, which asked what restaurant had it all -- great food, great service and a great time, was Wild Ginger, the former “Best Presentation” winner for the past two years. Wild Ginger’s selection of Asian Fusion specialties created long lines but all worth the wait.

<title>Boy Scouts Go Door to Door</title>
    <link>http://www.uwwc.org/News/tabid/727/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/94/Boy-Scouts-Go-Door-to-Door.aspx</link>
<description>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; Be on the lookout for local Boy Scouts of America to be in your neighborhood. As part of their Celebration of 100 Years of Scouting the Boy Scouts are working with&#160;United Way of Williamson&#160;County&#160;to deliver door hangers that have an important message about preparing for a family disaster. United Way of Williamson County with North Highland Company, Williamson County Emergency Management Agency and the American Red Cross Williamson County Chapter compiled a disaster preparedness plan and designed the door hanger to inform Williamson County residents about the availability of the plan.
&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; The better prepared your family is – the better your community responds to crisis. By sitting down with your family to create your own personalized Family Disaster Preparedness Plan you are being proactive for when the unexpected happens.
&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; Darryl Mott and his family know about the unexpected. The Motts home burned down in Brentwood over fall break in 2009. Darryl and his two sons, DJ and Lance, are members of Troop 8 in Brentwood. In the hours surrounding the fire the American Red Cross came immediately to the family’s aid.
&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; Darryl had this to say about his experience and why he and his family now want to help other families; “How prepared is your family for a disaster? When disaster struck our home and family, the Williamson County American Red Cross was there for us. It was also extremely helpful during the first hours that we had emergency contact and insurance information programmed into our cell phones. When my boys and I heard through our Boy Scout Troop that United Way wanted assistance distributing a Family Disaster Preparedness Plan door hanger, we became excited about helping. After our house burned down while we were out of town on last fall, the support and prayers of others were extremely helpful to our family in working through the disaster.”
&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; Mott continued, “Now we want to encourage everyone to complete a Family Disaster Preparedness Plan, get to know your neighbors, and be supportive of others in preparing for a disaster. The Boy Scout motto is: Be Prepared. The golden rule is: Love your neighbor as yourself. We understand first hand that when disaster strikes how important it is to be prepared and to have the support of others. Taking to heart what my children learn in Scouts and in Sunday school, has made life easier to manage no matter what type of disaster strikes. May disaster never strike your family however, may you gain some peace of mind in knowing you have a plan and that there are people and organizations that care.”
&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; So if you see Boy Scouts on your street please take the time to read the door hanger they leave behind and begin a discussion with your family to put your preparedness plan in place.
